When I was a teenager (1970s) there seemed to be public rallies & protests going on a regular basis (at least monthly ?) : Anti-nuclear, Anti-racism/apartheid, Anti-Govt. (of the day) & even Anti-Cannabis PROHIBITION..
BUT “What’s NOW missing from the scene ?”.. just this.. I would guess that I see protests on the NZ news about once every 3-4 months (maybe more in election year).. they are often organised by non-political groups : Anti-fossil fuels, Other climate change, Anti- WAR & maybe Gay-pride etc.
The ‘proud tradition’ of students & radicals.. marching on parliament OR a local Govt. office (as a sign of disapproval & democracy) seem to have faded away, with the times.. when I hear that voter turnout is at an all time LOW & many just seem totally apathetic about the INJUSTICE going on all around, I just wonder why.. is there something in the water or the air (that wasn’t there before).. it really makes me wonder !
