Australia move on Med-use

I read that Australia’s Govt. are introducing legislation to allow licensed cultivation of cannabis, for medicinal use. A few comments from the report:

‘Australia Wednesday introduced legislation into parliament to legalise the growing of cannabis for medicinal purposes, with the government calling it “the missing piece in a patient’s journey”.’

The Aust. (right-wing) health minister said “This is an important day for Australia and the many advocates who have fought long and hard to challenge the stigma around medicinal cannabis products,”

“Importantly, having a safe, legal and reliable source of products will ensure medical practitioners are now at the centre of the decision making process on whether medicinal cannabis maybe beneficial for their patient.”

‘The Labor opposition and the Greens have indicated they support the move, with the government envisaging that cannabis will only be available to patients through a doctor’s prescription or a medical trial.’

‘(The minister) made clear though that the move did not mean legal recreational use of the drug was any closer.’
*but I believe several Australian states have already decriminalised personal use

This further isolates Aotearoa/NZ on this issue. The NZ minister responsible has stated on several occasions that any approved cannabis drugs, would not be grown or manufactured in this country. He also said ‘raw leaf cannabis’ is off the agenda.. FULL-STOP !

btw; I listened to the opening day of NZ parliament (9/2/16).. an opposition Green MP said (paraphrased) ‘The Prime minister & Govt. MPs are ‘very relaxed’ on their agenda.. I wonder if they have a special dispensation from the Assoc. health minister (resp. for Drug policy & approving med-pot use).. suggesting they were possibly all ‘HIGH’ ?! šŸ™‚
