Subterranean Blues

There are many songs (in recent Pop-culture) that hint or openly mention illegal drugs : Bob Marley, Beatles, Rolling stones etc. BUT one of my fav’s is Bob Dylan’s ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’. Mr Zimmerman made it obvious of his weed use & there is a story, that he first ‘turned the Beatles on’

Here are some telling lines:

Johny’s in the basement
Mixing up the medicine
I’m on the pavement
Thinking about the government..

Maggie calls fleet foot
Face full of black soot
Talkin’ that the heat put
Plants in the bed, but
The phone’s tapped anyway
Maggie says that many say
They must bust in early May
Orders from the DA

Don’t wanna be a bum
You better chew gum
& The pump don’t work
‘Cuz the vandals took the handles.

this song is about 50 years old.. & still we are calling for change ! 😦
