Call for CIR

I read a press release today:

*Helen Kelly calls for cannabis CIR*

‘(Helen) has called for a Citizen’s Initiated Referendum (CIR) on
cannabis laws after Labour rejected her bid for a Parliamentary created

(Helen) helped Labour draft a legislation to create the referendum
but (Labour Leader) later denied his party was even working on such a plan.

Out of desperation, (Helen) has by-passed Labour and taken to Twitter to
promote a cannabis CIR.

“Hey Twitter. Do we start a petition 4 a citizens initiated referendum
on cannabis? Could we do it? How? Would it ignite political youth too?”
She said.

“How do we pull it off? Needs massive participation.”

Numerous New Zealanders have already endorsed the cannabis CIR.

*MPs challenged to back referendum legislation*

The Cannabis Party welcomes (Helen’s) call for a CIR but said every
MP in Parliament should first consider introducing the referendum
legislation that Labour rejected.

The Cannabis Party leader is writing to every MP in parliament, to ask
them to pick up the cannabis referendum legislation, originally drafted
by Hon Damien (Labour MP).

“If every Parliamentary party refuses to introduce the private member’s
bill then the CIR should go ahead.” leader (ALCP) said.

“We challenge all 121 MPs to embrace the democratic process and allow
the public to decide its own cannabis laws in a binding referendum.”

However, if MPs continue show contempt for democracy and ignore the will
of the public regarding cannabis, then the CIR should be used to by-pass
the politicians.’

**Well written & to the point ! 🙂
