come out of the closet

I watched a TV current affairs item, last evening.. talking about the 30 year anniversary since NZ passed ‘homosexual law reform’. They showed old footage of protests etc. ‘Gays’ being abused & demonised for; things they do in private, BUT potentially could have been arrested & prosecuted.
Watching it, made me think that there are similar parallels to cannabis law issues; many ‘stoners’ are hiding ‘in the closet’ for fear of being labeled, harassed & arrested/prosecuted !

All I can say.. IF ‘stoners’ really want to get cannabis law reform, then we all need to do likewise in huge numbers: ‘Come Out of the Closet’ & STANDUP to be counted.

“What do we want ? Law Reform.. When do we want it ? NOW !!!!” :/

  1. Why is same sex marriage even being used as a talking point in any regard from a political standpoint? The issue is absurd to argue about.

if you read the post, you will see my reason.. ‘hiding in the closet’ (as a majority still do, on the drug issue); will never get these issues adequately addressed. We need people marching on the streets & shouting it from the roof-tops.. “kia ora” 🙂

  3. Zedd, I have typically thought that hiding in the closet was just a reference to people who are gay not wanting to reveal themselves. Not necessarily referring to people who are considered stoners.

It is often associated with this, BUT having a ‘skeleton in the closet’ is a common phrase for having a ‘dark secret’. So I’m using it in a similar way.. Thx for your comments, ‘Ka Pai e hoa’ (all good my friend)

  5. Zedd, thank you for explaining this to me. I was just experiencing some confusion.
